Farrell Breaks Through For The Motorplex Win
Posted Sunday, 7 March 2010 by Darren ODea

AFTER going close in a few big wins in Western Australia Ryan Farrell finally claimed another win when he won the 25-lap feature race from Jason Kendrick and Troy Lawson at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night.
“It’s been a long time between drinks, it was nice to finally win a show,” Farrell said.
“A lot of people out there don’t realise what goes on behind the scenes.
“Without a great car we wouldn’t be standing up here.
“I am very fortunately to be in a very good ride.”
Kendrick was happy to finally stand on the podium.
“You can’t complain…but it would have been a bit better if we won, but it’s good to be on the podium,” Kendrick said.
Lawson claimed his second podium finish of the season.
“We have worked pretty hard on the car and got it back to where it should be,” Lawson said.
“Getting beaten by Farrell, we can cop that on the chin any day.”
Ben Ellement was early leader from Kendrick, Lawson and David Ellement but the reds came on early when Wayne Russell hit the main straight fence hard.
After the restart there was little changing of positions for a few laps apart from Farrell and Madsen starting to make up ground.
But then the moves started and Farrell went into fifth over David Ellement with 17 laps to go.
The leader was into lapped traffic and passed Mark Wells with 16 laps to go.
Kendrick was lucky to keep the car straight when he lost a bit of ground with 15 laps to go but kept the boot in.
Farrell’s intentions were obvious as he slipped into second and he was handed the lead when Ben Ellement headed infield with 12 laps to go.
The cautions came on when Madsen spun and backed it into pits bend with 11 laps to go with a flat left rear tyre.
There was plenty of ducking and diving with 10 laps to go in the frantic dash to the line.
Monte and Madsen turned it on for the crowd by storming through the field to finish first and second in the opening heat.
There were some daring slide jobs which could have ended in tears but it had everyone on the edge of their seats.
“The car is still a bit lose,” Monte said after the win.
“There is a way to go yet.”
Farrell started from the rear and won the second heat from Sartori and Coyle.
“We will just keep fine tuning the car all night…and keep chasing the track,” Farrell said.
“We will get the elbows up in the main,” the #95 pilot said.
“We have just got to get back and make some changes,” Jamie Maiolo said after winning heat three from Coyle and Madsen.
“We will get more out of it yet.”
Sartori won the final heat from Farrell and Kendrick.
“We have been working on this thing all year to get some speed out of it,” Sartori said.
“The car is slowly improving and we will just keep working on it.”

Combined Smash Repairs WA Speedcar Championship
NEVILLE Lance won the Combined Smash Repairs WA Speedcar Championship in dramatic fashion as he took the win from Rick Geneve and Dayne Kingshott.
Geneve led for most of the race until contact was made with Lance on the last lap seeing Lance fly by to claim his seventh WA title.
On the podium Geneve was obviously disappointed with what could have been.
Lance admitted it was a tough race.
“There are some people out there who are obviously upset, but that’s what speedcars are all about,” (referring to the closeness) Lance said.
“It was not deliberate, it was just the way it worked out.”
Geneve was the early leader but the red lights went on when Craig Lawrence flipped on the back straight.
On the restart it was Geneve from Giles, Lance and Glazebrook who broke away from the rest of the drivers.
Lance and Glazebrook traded lines and spots for third after five laps and then the battle moved up to include Giles.
Glazebrook finally grabbed third and was showing nose inside Giles for second, getting the car up on the back wheels as he powered out of pits bend.
With 15 to go Glazebook slowed up and lost a lot of ground and then withdrew on the next lap.
With 10 laps remaining there was little separating the top three.
Lance slid into second over Giles with nine laps to go and held off the counter attack from Giles on the next lap.
With four to go Lance was on the back of Geneve and looked ready to pounce.
Lance tagged the back of Geneve in turn two and went around as Geneve lost some ground and had to settle for second.
Things were a little better for Geneve earlier on in the night.
“That was good fun,” Geneve said after winning the first heat from the fast-finishing Glazebrook and Kingshott.
“It is early in the night…the only lap that count is the last lap in the feature race.”
It was a bad start for Tom Watson after he had to change a magneto and then as the field rolled around Lawrence stopped and Watson ran into the back of him, cutting his front left tyre.
Despite the hiccup he managed to keep the car going for a sixth-place finish.
Lance won the second heat after surviving a bump from Giles on the last lap which saw Giles lose ground and slip back to third behind Glazebrook.
“It was a bit of a hard race and looking forward to the final,” Lance said.
“The track is very demanding, you have got to be right on top of it.”

Blackman Fabrication 360 Sprintcar Championship
WESTERN Australia proved to be a happy hunting ground for Sydney driver Ian Madsen who has based himself on the west coast for the last month.
After winning the preliminary feature and then the main feature race in the World Series Sprintcars grand final at the Motorplex last month, Madsen stayed in Western Australia to contest some other open class races.
He continued the association with the Garry Miller-owned team when he drove the #32 360 car in the championship event, again being successful.
“It was another good night..we got away there and got the job done,” Madsen said after collecting another win in WA in the Garry Miller-owned #32.
“It’s been a pleasure to stay over here, it’s kinda said to go home on Monday.
Manuel summed up his campaign.
“I gave it everything I had in the feature, but it was not quite enough,” Manuel said.
As for Johnson, he was meant to be in two places on the night.
“I was supposed to be at ACDC tonight but I think this was way better,” Johnson said.
There was a restart early after Nathan Brady and Kris Coyle came together on the back straight.
On the restart Madsen powered away from Manuel and Johnson.
Callum Williamson got by Owen Achee for fourth with 11 laps to go in what turned out to be a high-speed procession with little passing.
There were a few tense moments late when Madsen had trouble passing a lapped car, but once he got by Ray Fitzsimmons he had a clear track.
Despite holding down a very handy lead for much of the opening heat race Hawkins only just held on to finish from a very fast-finishing Manuel, with Johnson third and Madsen fourth.
“It’s been a couple of years since I have driven the car,” a puffed Hawkins said after the win.
Coyle went to the rear after spinning the Greg Fisher-owned #15 on the second lap of the heat.
Madsen won the second heat from Coyle and Manuel.
