Madsen Makes Triumphant Return

In only his second outing in the south west this season, World of Outlaw racer Kerry Madsen proved once again he was too tough.

After 5 weeks on the road, a grueling race schedule and not much to show, he stepped up perfectly taking all before him to win the Sprintcar Face-Off at Coates Hire Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night.

Ben Ellement stopped the clocks with the fastest lap around the clayway this season being a 13.40. There were several mid 13 second times but none were fast enough to top Ellement.

Jason Kendrick who also returned from the busy racing schedule on the east coast showed outstanding form winning both of his heats. After a disappointing time trial he was pleased with his efforts saying the time away had benefited him immensely.

Dave Ellement also popped up for a heat win to add to his fine form from last week at Kwinana. The dashes were fast and lively with Luch Monte and Kerry Madsen sharing a front row start for the A Main.

Right from the start Madsen shot away and was never headed. Even with a minor stoppage with 12 laps left to run he found the going easy weaving through lapped traffic at whim, holding off his opponents. The fast moves came from Mark Wells who, with a re-built car after a heavy crash at Kwinana last week, stunned the Bunbury crowd with scintillating passing to come from 8th and finish in second place for the night.

Current state champion David Priolo managed to take third place after dicing with Ben Ellement several times during the race. Luch Monte and Jamie Maiolo finished out of the top five placing as Kris Coyle made his way into 5th with a handful of laps to go.

One of the biggest sprintcar events ever to be seen in the south west will be round 3 of the Hydraulink Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series in Collie on Saturday, February 13th where some of Australia's biggest names including Robbie Farr will compete.
