Series champ is back for more

Two-time AHG Sprintcar Series champion Brad Maiolo.

THE wait is almost over with the sprintcar season set to fire up as part of the Shannons Powerpalooza at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, October 28.

The Grand Opening Showdown will also be round one of the 2017-18 AHG Sprintcar Series that has been won in strong fashion over the past two seasons by Brad Maiolo.

The 25-year-old farm manager from Myalup goes into the event with plenty of confidence and is keen to build on the success of last season that not only included winning the series, but also some big races like the Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Wings.

The younger of the LJM Racing outfit, that he shares with big brother Jamie, said they have only introduced minor changes in the off-season.

“We have still got the same engine and chassis package that we finished last year on,” Maiolo said.

“We know it’s a strong, reliable, good package, so we will stay with that - just including a few minor things.”

Once again Maiolo will have the support of Brendan Teller as his crew chief, building on the tight bond the two have developed for nearly four seasons.

After a long and cold winter without racing, the series champion is ready to get back onto the Motorplex clay for the season-opener and is looking forward to all the shows.

‘We have been waiting for a long time to go racing and we are looking forward to all the big ones - the WA State title, the King of Wings, the Krikke Boys - and when World Series gets here (next February), hopefully we can get up there with them too.”
