Ellement right in the mix

“IT was a lot of fun.”

That was how Ben Ellement described his third to Cameron Gessner and Brad Maiolo in the third round of the AHG Sprintcar Series at Quit Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night.

For Ellement it was his second third placing in a row in the series – on the back of a seventh in the season opener.

“We struggled a fair bit in the heats there but we got our act together for the final,” Ellement said.

“A big thanks to all the Wormall crew and my guys.

“Every time the car is straight and it’s on the podium it’s great, but you have to know when to go and when not to go.”

Ellement said if the car was not quite right then as a driver he has to use his head a bit more – something he conceded he didn’t do when he was younger.

“But I have wised up a fair bit these days and we are running for a championship, so you have to keep your head screwed on and bring it home.”

But don’t be fooled – should Ellement sniff chance of a victory in the Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Wings at the Perth Motorplex this Saturday night he will be going for it.

He finished third last year to brothers Brad and Jamie Maiolo.

Saturday night’s feature race is a 40-lap affair, punctuated with an infield pitstop that will be called somewhere between laps 15 and 25.

Saturday’s show will also feature 360 Sprintcars, Limited Sprintcars, Formula 500s and the Scardifields Smash Repairs Fireworks.
