Kendrick claims Speedweek final

JASON Kendrick led from start to finish to claim the fourth and final round of the Wormall Civil USA v WA Sprintcar Speedweek at the Perth Motorplex on Sunday night.

He won the 30-lap final from American Dominic Scelzi, Trent Pigdon, Brad Maiolo and the second American – Brian Brown.

Kendrick won two of the four Speedweek feature races, but it was Cameron Gessner, who won the other two feature races, who won the overall Speedweek crown.

In the final Kendrick got the jump from Scelzi and Maiolo with cars jockeying for positions in the early laps.

Ryan Lancaster, who started from P16 in his first race back for the season, had an off early on and rejoined the field – albeit a long way back.

Scott Chatwin, who returned with another car after heavily destroying one in a sickening crash in Bunbury two nights earlier, spun around on lap four for the only restart of the race.

David Priolo, who started from P4, spun and pulled infield on lap 9.

Midway through the race Scelzi closed in on Kendrick in traffic but it was short-lived with Kendrick then gaining an advantage as they worked their way through more cars.

Pigdon, who has not raced much this season and started from P7, moved into third over Maiolo on on lap 15 – at the same time as other good battles were held further down the order – including one between Ben Ellement and Taylor Milling.

Unfortunately for Milling it counted for little as his left rear tyre exploded on lap 21 and he managed to limp the #25 machine to the infield and out of harm’s way.

Mitchell Wormall, who started from P10, hit the fence on the last lap and was a DNF.
