Kendrick wins Bunbury and Speedweek

JASON Kendrick claimed his second feature race in a row, this time at Bunbury Speedway on Tuesday night, and in doing so he also won the USA v WA Sprintcar Speedweek championship that was held over four nights.

Kendrick crossed the line ahead of Americans Mark Dobmeier and Parker Price-Miller in the 30-lap final, earning enough points to win the mini-series from Price-Miller and local heroes Brad and Jamie Maiolo.

Heading into the final round (with two previous rounds at the Perth Motorplex and one at Collie Speedway), Kendrick was 12 points behind Brad Maiolo with both starting on the front row.

Maiolo was the early leader in the feature race until on the 15th lap he clipped a slowing Chace Karpenko in lapped traffic, ending his night - his first major blemish of the season.

Kendrick who was closing in on Maiolo, then inherited the lead on the restart and opened up a commanding lead for the majority of the run to the checkers, until he ran too high on the last lap, slightly opening the door up for Dobmeier who was closing in.

The margin as they crossed the line was 0.582 of a second.

Over the four nights Kendrick claimed a fourth, a sixth and a pair of wins.

Dobmeier was very impressive in the final and made up some serious ground after starting from P7.

It was a strong finish after posting two DNFs and a fourth in the series.

In one of the rounds the team changed motors and a rear-end and moved towards the front of the field before the bleed-off valve on the left rear fell out.

The other DNF was the result of contact with Price-Miller that knocked the driveline out of the car.

Price-Miller, who started from P3, struggled with the car after a motor plate broke, making it a handful to drive, but he still managed third, albeit 5.7 seconds off the win.

He started the show by claiming the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time award.

Over the four nights of the series he had a second, a fifth and a pair of thirds for 572 points - eight behind Kendrick’s winning tally of 580.

Despite his DNF, Brad Maiolo was third overall on 568 points - thanks to two wins and a second leading into the Bunbury round.
The feature race was only two laps old before the first restart when Kye Scroop spun out in the first turns.

After the restart Dobmeier slipped into fourth and Maiolo’s early-race speed saw him into lapped traffic by lap eight.

Unfortunately it counted for little when he made contact with Karpenko and both cars were dragged to the infield.

Dobmeier disposed of Price-Miller of lap 15 and held second spot for the rest of the race.

Jamie Maiolo, who started from P6, finished fourth, ahead of Kaiden Manders who started from P4 and took fifth.

Ben Ellement was sixth after starting from P8 while the third American in the field, Harli White, finally finished her first feature race on WA soil, taking seventh after starting from P9.

Andrew Priolo came from P13 to finish eighth in another strong drive, while Scroop, despite his early spin, converted a P11 start into a ninth place.

On the back of three eighth places in a row, Taylor Milling took 10th after starting from P7, with Todd Davis the only other finisher in 11th after starting from P10.

Heat wins went to Price-Miller, Kendrick, Brad Maiolo and Dobmeier.
