Two wins from 3 nights for Gessner

TWO wins and a second in less than a week makes Cameron Gessner hot property in WA sprintcar racing at the moment.

Gessner claimed round one of the USA v WA Sprintcar Speedweek at Quit Bunbury Speedway on December 26 before taking second to Jason Kendrick at the Perth Motorplex the following night.

Last night, when the series returned to Bunbury, Gessner again took the win, this time from Brad Maiolo and American Brian Brown, to be the leader in the series with one round to go at the Motorplex on Sunday night.

It was means Gessner has won all three feature races on the Bunbury track so far this season.

Gessner started from P3 in the main event, tucked in behind Maiolo and Lee Redmond and for much of the race was running second to Maiolo.

He pulled off an impressive high line move over Maiolo with nine laps remaining to set up the win and a dominant run by the JAK Civil team.

Northern Territory driver Danny Porter was the first to withdraw from the main event after he crashed into pit fence hard and was lucky not to flip on the first lap.

A few laps later Lee Redmond was sliding in pits bend and was hit by Jason Kendrick who didn’t have time to miss the car in front of him.

Redmond was able to keep rolling around but Kendrick pulled infield with a deflated right rear tyre.

It was a disappointing end for Redmond who later pulled infield on a night that the driver of the W52 showed so much promise with good times and a front-row start.

With six laps remaining David Priolo, who was running third, hit the turn one fence hard, damaging the front end on the W8.

Brown looked strong in the latter stages of the event, looking for a way past Maiolo but he had to settle for third after starting from P6.

James Inglis, who started from P8, put in a very strong drive to take fourth in an outstanding drive for the second-year racer who is running a lower budget that many of his rivals.

The second American in the field, Dominic Scelzi, started from P7 and finished fifth, ahead of Ben Ellement, Mitchell Wormall, Jamie Landrigan and Brodie Minchin.

Brad Maiolo claimed Victory 1 Performance Quick Time at the start of the show and heat wins went to Maiolo, Kendrick, Redmond and Landrigan.

Scott Chatwin was a spectator in the feature race after a massive crash on the back straight in one of his heats – washing up the track too high before flipping violently and heavily damaging the chassis.

This was his second big crash in similar circumstances in the past two shows.

The fourth and final round of Speedweek will be held at the Motorplex on Sunday night.
